Spartan Recreation offers students the chance to participate in epic Outdoor Adventures like hiking, camping, surfing, rock climbing, and mountain biking.

All outings are led by student leaders and local experts who are ready to share their passion and outdoor knowledge with you.

Introduction to Backpacking: Castle Rock State Park

  • Trip Dates: June 27-28, 2025

  • Pre-Trip Meeting: June 24, 2025, 5-6 pm in SRAC

  • Registration Fee: $50 SJSU Students only

  • Registration Deadline: June 25, 2025

  • Trip Brief: Looking for a fun and adventurous summer trip? Join us for an overnight backpacking trip to Castlerock State Park! Whether you are new to backpacking or just want to be introduced to the sport, this trip is for you! This is designed to help you learn the basics about backpacking. You will learn the essentials of how to set up a tent, purify water, and navigate a trail. Sign up now, spaces are limited.

White Water Rafting

  • Trip Dates: August 23, 2025

  • Registration Fee: $150 SJSU Students only

  • Registration Deadline: August 20, 2025

  • Trip Brief: Looking for a thrilling way to end your Summer? Join us for an unforgettable white water rafting adventure on the South Fork of the American River. This one-day trip is a great way to experience the thrill of the river. White Water rafting guides, trip leaders, and transportation are included. Spots fill fast, so come on into the SRAC and register today!

All Outdoor Adventure Trips are for all skill levels. Beginners are not only welcome, but encouraged to join us!

How to Sign Up

Visit the Front Desk at the SRAC to sign up. Trip prices are for current SJSU students only with a valid SRAC membership, unless a non-student pricing is specified.
